Eco Styler

Ok,quick one.
So,I found the Evo Styler Edge and Style Control in a store by my house!
I was so excited. It's not the normal Rxo Styler I've been reading about from every hair blogger or vlogger in the US but I think there's hope and I am thinking of speaking with the store manager too.

So,here's what my hair looks like after using the gel on my hair today.

Nigerian attire

Please, I'm tired of trying to explain myself.
I'm a jeans and t-shirt person. I do clean up every now an then. I'm not partial to Nigerian attire because I'm so uncomfortable in them,I feel awkward in them and…it's just not me.
I have kind of a boyish shape. If I wasn't overweight,I'd have no boobs,no hips and no booty.
I try,I really do to put on Nigerian attires and then,I can't wait to take it off.
I don't hate them,I just don't like how uncomfortable and restraining they are and for my body type, just don't look good on me. So there! Rant over.

Texturizers

Ok,I know for some people, this is a very sensitive and controversial topic.
But seriously! Isn't the whole point of going natural accepting the real texture of your hair and loving it as is?!

Firstly,a texturizer is a mild relaxer. Relaxer being the key word. You are still altering the real texture of your hair.
Come on people!
I'm tired of seeing all the questions about texturizing natural hair on Facebook and natural hair blogs!
If you don't love your hair natural, what's the point. You might as well go back to the chemicals.
But are you still natural. No ma'am!
If you alter your hair's texture with any chemical,it's not natural any more.
Sorry but that's the truth!

Miss my curls

Meeeen! I'm reeeeally missing my curls. Really tempted to take down these braids. One good thing though,it has cured me of my hand in hair syndrome(HIH). Lol
I miss touching my hair
Playing with my curls.
Looking at my hair in the mirror.
Experimenting with new styles.
Taking pictures so I can admire and show them off…*sigh*

Shopping For A Spray Bottle

Hubby threw my spray bottle away and I need it most. NOW! My hair's in braids and I need to apply my leave-in mix. Now I'm shopping around for a spray bottle. Which is near impossible in Port Harcourt. God give me patience.

OT: I found a fellow natural naija hair blogger(Finally!)

Enjoy my protective style pic,lol

I'M NOT PERMING MY HAIR!!!!!

Why does everyone think I'm going to start perming my hair again. Maybe they're not listening.
I AM NATURAL NOW! Live with it. This is my style now. I'm not going back to permed hair. Get used to seeing me with 'unruly hair' and NO!,I'm not combing it.

Big Hair Sunday😜

Had a big hair Sunday. And then my fro came down on Monday.
I'm really loving being able to flip.
Tomorrow I'll be three months natural. Woohoo!!!

See what my hair can do

So,I'm almost three months natural and see what my hair can do!

I am so happy with how healthy and how fast my hair is growing. This journey is going a whole lot smoother than I anticipated.
I'm gonna celebrate my three month milestone by getting braids in(finally!).
I know I said so before but I've been enjoying my hair at this stage so much,I didn't want to cover it up.
And I just know I will mis touching my hair once it's all covered up in braids.

Water and Shea butter are still my staples, along with water based conditioner. I'm also still trying to eat healthier and I've been consuming a lot of water since I went natural.
Happy Growing!!!!

Entrepreneurship

An idea has been brewing in my mind. It's taking form and the urge and resources to bring it to fruition are very strong and available.
I've never wanted to work 9 to 5 so this is so me and I love working with my hands.
Something's cooking…Watch this space!

GROWTH

It's barely six weeks and I love the growth. Most importantly,my hair is at its healthiest.
Now that I finally have some semblance of a regimen,I'm enjoying my journey so far.
I planned on braiding my hair but…I will miss my hair too much!
But I know I'll eventually have to braid.
So here's my progress,so far:

Is Naija ready for the natural hair movement?

After speaking with some of my friends and a few other acquaintances,it hit me that Nigerian women may not be ready for the natural hair movement just now.
I have to control myself anytime I hear girls talking about hair weaves these days. I'm beginning to sound very political. Lol😁😄😜
I really hope my journey into the natural hair world will convince others that it can be beautifully done and for cheap too.

Off topic…
…I finally found Amla oil and I'll be trying it out!

First length check

So these are pics from my first length check two weeks post big chop.

Monday 6 August 2012

Big Chop!!

I did it. I chopped off my relaxed hair and I tell you,it's liberating! I love my teeny weeny Afro. I am officially natural. Woohoo!!
Loving the new me!

Thursday 2 August 2012

I WANT TO CIT MY HAIR!!!!!

I really, really want to cut my hair but everyone says wait and a part of me says wait. What if I don't look good in it?
Aaarrrrrrrghhhh!

Tuesday 24 July 2012

Water!!!

Yes! The best moisturizer for my hair is water.
Drinking it,sprinkling it on my hair. My hair is NEVER thirsty.
But the peeing,oh!!!!!

Downside of being natural in Naija

Seriously, someone needs to come up with natural hair care products in Naija!
It's not easy when I see posts on YouTube and Facebook about products that work well for my fellow naturalistas in the US and the UK. Arrrrggggghhhh!
But it's all good. With a little bit of DIY,I'm giving my hair all the TLC it needs with ingredients from those products being used by my fellow naturalistas abroad.
I've learned to whip up my own coconut/Shea butter hair butter.
Olive oil, apple cider vinegar, aloe Vera juice…just to name a few.
It's hard work but I'm kinda having fun.
Stay tuned!

Healthy Journey

Funny how I started off on a journey to natural healthy hair and I find myself on an overall healthy journey.
Being a mother of three and a stay at home mom, taking care of me isn't a priority. Over the years,I've literally let myself go.
I'm not super obese but I'm not one hundred percent healthy, either.
My hair journey,so far,has set me on a path I never thought of taking but I've,however, found myself in.
Don't get me wrong,I have tried to lose weight before now and I did lose some weight but eating healthy? Not so much. And being someone who doesn't really stick to a thing for a long time(I'm Gemini),I'm really proud of myself! And I'm loving every minute of it.
Stay tuned!

Tuesday 17 July 2012

Got braids in!

Decided to get braids as my hair is fragile right now. Styling two textures is also very difficult. I just might chop of my relaxed hair sooner than I plan.
We'll just have to wait and see…

Monday 16 July 2012

Braids as protective styling

So I got braids in,because for the past week,I've been tempted to chop off all my relaxed hair. Lol
The braids will help me keep the scissors away for at least another month.
I deep condition and applied oil by myself. Unfortunately,my hair didn't dry well enough by the time I got to the salon so I had to use heat to dry it. *cringe*. But I guess this one time wo t hurt…I hope.

Friday 13 July 2012

Updates!!

So I'm trying out this new way of growing out hair. I'll be posting pics to update. Stay tuned!

Big Decision:I'm going natural!

So,I've decided to grow out my natural hair! Being from Nigeria where wearing a weave has become popular, over the years,it's a bit scary to go into these unchartered waters. But I'm tired of trying to manage the damage done to my hair by straightening with relaxers and flat irons. The chemical and heat damage done to my hair is terrible. I'm taking back my hair!Lol. That sounded so political. Any way,I'm going natural and I'm already getting the "Aren't you due for a retouch?" I guess for now I'll have to keep relying on support from my fellow naturalistas from the US and the Uk. I'm off to YouTube to get more support from my fellow naturalistas, until I can find naturalistas in Naija.
